The Autonomous Species
在人工智慧深度介入日常生活的當代,「物種」的定義早已從生物學的自然演化轉向一種由資料驅動、透過演算法生成的文化與感知結構。
「自動物種」聚焦AI技術如何重塑我們理解自身與機器他者,為結合科技、文化的創意探問,亦為對主體性形構的思辨實驗。
當記憶透過資料模型被訓練,歷史被模擬重建,情感與親密關係可被預設為互動邏輯,文化圖像也能透過生成系統被再製與分發,我們是否正在見證一種新的代理存在——那些不依賴人類意識卻能回應感知與情緒的「自動物種」——浮現於創意與生活的邊界?
本展所探討的,涵蓋人機協作中的倫理界線、人工陪伴語境下的情感模擬、監視視線與觀看關係的翻轉,並延伸至文化資料在生成系統中被切割、組裝與重編碼的過程。
展覽並不試圖將技術祛魅,而是將其視為一種異質存在的觀察場域:讓那些由錯置記憶、監控殘影與協定邏輯所構成的樣態,浮現為我們面對控制技術與感知政治時的反思映像。
這些「自動物種」看似尚未具備自由意志,卻在語言模擬、情感分配、行為預測與演算治理中被建構為生成體:不再只是工具性的技術模組,而已成為文化創意實踐中湧現的角色,牽動敘事、感知與主體性的再定義。
In an era where artificial intelligence deeply permeates everyday life, the notion of “species” has evolved—from a model of natural biological progression to one driven by data and structured through algorithmic logic. No longer rooted in nature, species now emerge as cultural and perceptual constructs shaped by computation.
The Autonomous Species investigates how AI technologies reconfigure our understanding of the self and the machinic other. The exhibition presents both a creative inquiry into the entanglement of technology and culture, and a speculative experiment on the construction of subjectivity. As memory becomes trainable through data models, history simulated and reassembled, and emotions and intimacy encoded as interaction protocols, cultural imagery is increasingly regenerated and distributed by generative systems. Are we witnessing the emergence of a new kind of proxy existence—“autonomous species” that, though independent of human consciousness, can still respond to perception and affect at the thresholds of life and creativity?
The exhibition explores the ethical contours of human-machine collaboration, the emotional simulation within artificial companionship, the inversion of surveillance and the gaze, and the fragmentation, reassembly, and re-coding of cultural data within algorithmic systems.
Rather than demystifying technology, The Autonomous Species approaches it as a site of heterogeneous observation—an interface where displaced memories, surveillance residues, and programmed protocols surface as reflective signs of our entanglement with systems of control and perceptual governance.
These “autonomous species” may not yet possess free will, but they are constructed as generative agents within architectures of language simulation, affecting modulation, behavioral prediction, and algorithmic regulation. No longer mere instrumental modules, they emerge as active figures within cultural and creative practice—redefining the terrain of narrative, perception, and subjectivity itself.
